Lovely Stocking Fillers from a friend
Today I had a lovely parcel from the Postman of a bag of personalised goodies ordered from Snapdragons newly launched website this week.
They are featured in this weeks Not On The High Street catalogue – but buying direct means that the artisan doesn’t have to forfeit the toppy commission rates….
Jane designs and stitches all the appliques herself – and whipped them out in under a week. She included in the parcel one of her new Caravan cards which I am putting up on my wall…. all very lovely and I hope that all the girls love them. (Big Sarah is my sons nursery teacher, who is a lover of Campers – so this is PERFECT). At only £4.95 plus £1.50 for personalisation they are a MUST HAVE as far as I am concerned!
Plus this week she has a super generous 25% off – using code WEB25
I have to admit that among the 12 personalised mirrors was a little PINK CARAVAN with my name on it! I will be a happy lady when digging deep into my stocking on Christmas morn… thank you Jane x
Rainy Day Bright Project
New Felt Kits
As mentioned in my previous post about our Crafty Chic craft classes, I have been busy creating some new craft kits using our wool felt and button mixes.
First off the production line is our PEARLY QUEEN UNION JACK cushion. Using simple hand sewing stitches you can create this cushion – and it is perfect to add some home made chic to your home, or as a gift. The buttons are simpler to sew than you may think – as we use a strong double yarn, so the buttons are put on all together.
Second is our RAINBOW HEART BUTTON cushion, and joyous bright mix to add a bit of colour to any room.
Third the PERSONALISED LETTER CUSHION – choose from Pink with colours, or Red with Pearl. The kit comes with a full alphabet template to print out and use – so you can make multiple cushions by buying some more felt squares from us, spelling out a name or word. They make perfect Christmas Gifts or Wedding Ideas.
Fourth in the cushion kits is the LOVE cushion – which is in Blue with red and a rainbow O.
Then there are the MINI FELT KITS which start with our BUTTON PIN CUSHION, which can be made up in a couple of hours – and is a perfect childrens crafting choice… more mini kits to follow.
Learning to sew these basic stitches (making one of the pin cushions) is one of our new CRAFT CLASSES, so why not come along if you are feeling a little hand sewn rusty?
There are complete instructions about each of the stitches in the kits, as well as everything you will need (except a cushion filler).
Let us know how you get on…
Crafty Chic Class Schedule Live
Having sought feedback from customers and friends, our new craft class schedule has gone live today.
I have been busy concocting a new range of accessible craft kits, which I hope will continue the Crafty Chic ethos that we have at Granny Knits, and encourage a revival in simple homemade craft skills.
Being an impatient lady – I am aware of the need for speed (to quote a certain Top Gun) in our busy lives, so the techniques I will be teaching are quick and easy ways to add a bit of home spun chic into your homes. They will even make perfect Christmas gifts…
So to start we have a HANDMADE FELT introduction – where you can come away with one of my newly designed Granny Knits button pin cushions, using quality wool felts and buttons, you can use our brand colours or opt for something a little more personal … leaving with simple hand sewing stitches and techniques to move into other projects… like our new felt craft kits. Plus you can opt into our November FELT DECORATIONS class should you fancy.
Second BEGINNERS CROCHET – a 2 part study of basic stitches, where you will make a floral brooch and then if you are feeling bold – attempt our hat!
Third on the line up is a POM POM Christmas - using our new quick pom pom makers you will learn how to make a thoroughly modern wreath and garlands to adorn your tree and home. (Yes twitter followers – that is what I have been practising for the last 2 weeks!)
Fourth is EMBROIDERY FOR BEGINNERS where you will leave with a new twist on an old school craft and some lovely new linens for your Christmas Table
Fifth HANDBOUND BOOKS and ORIGAMI GIFT BOXES a full day of upcycled paper crafts with stunning results.
Last and by no means least we have CROSS STITCH CHIC – the start of Granny Knits and my favourite … the options for this are endless, but they do take a little time – so this is a starter / taster class to get you going, and if there is the demand, we will hold a weekly evening stitch n bitch session.
The classes are held in TURF COTTAGE – our holiday let and open studio space – so accommodation and special parties can be catered for. Simply email us at info@grannyknits for more details. In addition our very good and talented friend Chris will be hosting art and design classes in his studio near Lewes in East Sussex. So follow us for more details.
Finally there is a lovely lady down the road from us DENA who runs KRAFTY KIDS which my daughter goes to every week.. so why not check her out too.
You can BOOK ONLINE and email us if you would like to see anything else or perhaps an evening class / weekends instead. Hope to see you there soon … x
V&A Quilting Exhibition
Saturday 20th March was the launch of the new VandA Quilting exhibition. Libby (5 year old daughter) and I couldn’t resist and caught the train up for the first days action. You could amble round in under an hour – but the patterns and colours caught Libby’s imagination and we parked up on the floor and sketched and coloured in designs for nearly 4 hours. (Yes she is as fabric mad as me – and I feel blessed!)
We have to admit here that we did take a few sneaky snaps to share with you, until the Security Guard informed us that there was no photography.
So sorry folks you will have to make do with my fuzzy snaps or head on up there to take in the full collection.
I am torn between my favourite being ‘Womens Fluff’ quilt (a tongue in cheek look at the life of women – which is stuffed with fluff from a tumble dryer)… or the piece created by the inmates of Wormwood Scrubs. Both aesthetically gorgeous, but inspiring at the same time.
The shop at exit contains some super lovely limited edition Liberty Prints and stitching goodies. We had a fab day out, and would recommend the empty but beautiful Lunchbox room for you to picnic in as an alternative to the expensive and packed cafe!
