Calendar | A Nostalgic Chelsea Flower Show

This week is RHS Chelsea Flower Show – the most prestigious of all the RHS shows and one that is part of the British Summer “Events”… in the last few years when I have been it has been vile weather – but after the hellish last few weeks the gods have been kind and the weather is glorious..

Whilst I am not a horticultural expert – I love blooms (the blowsier the better) and I love a bit of wild character and colour in a garden.

It was great to see Chris Beardshaw (an old favourite) win gold for his Azaleas and Rhodedenrons which are out of favour – but fabulously nostalgic for me and my childhood trips to Cliveden and Burnham Beeches… and of course my Grandmas Garden.

This nostalgic theme continued through the show – with caravans, madly wild flowers and chelsea pensioners being part of the displays!

Hope along all this week .. and on Friday you get to buy and carry away the left overs as they dismantle …!  My garden is full of old bits of Chelsea

For all of you who could not get enough of this – here is the launch video from the designer of the new Lego Camper Van – and he is so geeky cool I am in love (sorry Mr H)

As for the tee shirt inside with Make Lego not War on it – well the detail is just for big kids like me :)

New Decorations Arrived

We have been overwhelmed by the demand for our new Nostalgic Decorations..  we thought you would like them, but had not planned on how just how successful they would be.
We are thrilled to let you know that another container arrived yesterday, but they are selling out fast.  Our favourites?  The Giant 19inch heart and the tea stained edges of our new Vintage Ivory Colourway.
We are photographing some of the new items and will share them as soon as we can… but for now it is all hands on deck, shipping and packing!

Retro Biscuit Love continued…

I have already discussed at length my ‘Love of the Custard Cream‘ and indeed my families addiction to retro biscuits… and I have been working on some Cross Stitch Kits which pay tribute to these classics.. Whilst browsing Etsy the other day Mr H discovered someone else who obviously was partial to these teatime delights too.  WHATNIKKIMADE  creates screen printed super sized cushions of her favourite tea time treats…
We love them A LOT and are trying to find space on our ever full sofas to justify purchasing a couple for our collection!

Things to do with Streamers

ribbon and flower gift wrap

I LOVE paper streamers..  when I was a child we used to twist them and drape them everywhere at Christmas – and the reels just seemed to go on FOREVER…
So when we launched NOSTALGIC EVENTS I set about sourcing these in our colour palette to festoon onto every occassion…
Last week they arrived and yesterday I played and played with the colourful array..  and this is what I came up with!
I am in the midst of writing lots of DIY Party tutorials .. and so full instructions will follow…
Each colour comes in a 25m reel and at less than £3 each you get an awful lot for your buck .. and plenty of paper to play with!  Cheaper than ribbon, bunting and paper chains for sure!

An ode to the Custard Cream

I am a bit partial to retro biscuits.. and in particular the Custard Cream and Bourbon Biscuit.  The thrifty girl in me likes that they are only 40p a packet (even in Waitrose) and yet are still hard to beat in the tea time stakes!
So with this in mind – I thought I would share with you this fantastic biscuit tin that Mr H bought me  for Christmas,  which was cracked open yesterday with a very large mug of tea!  Happy Days!
Each member of our clan has their nostalgic fave … my sons favourite is the Jammy Dodger and my daughter is a bourbon girl..  whilst Mr H is partial to anything from Tunnocks (teacakes, caramel wafers etc etc choc fest) .. so I am about to launch a range of Kitchen art based on said tea time muses…
Cup cakes PAH… bring out the biscuit tin!

New Retro inspired Art Prints

Missed a few days blogging – as this weekend we were not only making POM POMS for our up coming craft classes, but also busy designing, printing and photographing our new collection of NEW ART PRINTS, launching this week.

First up is an homage to my trusty holepunch!  Born when I was 12 and starting BIG SCHOOL!  I covered it in punched name tape, spelling my name in different ways and trying to be arty.  Anyway it still sits on my desk all these years later – and whilst others may take the mickey…  it has without doubt stood the test of time as other hole punches come and go!

But anyway the star of the show is my trusty Dynamo Label Punch Maker – which inspired these new TAPE PRINTS, my favourite being the LOVE YOU LOTS rainbow of tape colours.

Second up is based on the frequent requests I get for a) Something for the Kitchen and b) Vintage Colours please..  so I came up with these 3 little beauties :  More Tea Vicar?, Hello Cupcake and Oops a Daisy (the latter also being my favourite curse word!)

More to come – so keep em peeled, and enjoy these for now!

Goodwood Revival No 2

Following my previous post about our glorious weekend at Goodwood Revival,  Mr H and some Tweeters  and Facebook friends have asked for more pictures of cars and people and our outfits…

I have already given my full low down and review..  so this is simply lots more pics, including some courtesy of Mr H and his favourite Iphone app ‘Hipstamatic’ (for that out of focus vintage look)…  including the saucy vintage garage pin ups for the boys!

Enjoy!

An Ode to Chip Butties

Yesterday was fairly hectic to say the least.  We are trying not to complain ..  as the success of our Art Prints and Granny Knits kits has meant we are burning candles at both ends to meet the demand.
The kitchen is therefore looking bare, so yesterday lunchtime we nipped up to the chippy and made white bread chip butties with ketchup for lunch.  My goodness me it was divine… and a new poem is being written as we speak…
It is hardly a recipe, but the response on twitter shows that there is a lot of latent love for this mecca of British not so haute cuisine!  We salute you Mr Butty!
