Granny Square Cookies!

Oh my gosh…  regular readers will know of my Granny Square addiction (hence design things like our popular Granny Square Cross Stitch Kit).. and whilst browsing the web yesterday I stumbled upon instructions for the most divine Granny Square cookies from Sugar and Meringue.

I am not the most patient cookie decorator – but I am so going to have a go at making these!  But may just find them too cute to eat.

Star Wars Geek Chic Japanese Towels

Tenugui star warsI am a little bit of a geek at heart as you know – and a fan of lots of things Japanese.  So I was delighted to discover these traditional Strapya World : Star Wars TENUGUI Towels.

Each Tenugui is made with authentic and traditional dyeing method called NASEN. Normally the cloths are used for all manner of things from dish cloths to ninja headbands – and usually are printed in muted blues.  But this mixture of  Star Wars characters and the unique and very Japanese-like design make these towels worthy of any Jedi!

Plus they are only US$15 (£10) to ship to UK

My favourite?  Darth Vadar looking contemplatively into a lake.. or perhaps C3PO and R2D2 under a traditional pink cherry blossom.

Ardingly in the rain

Today was our second rainy trip to Ardingly, the West Sussex Antique trade fair held every few months in the South of England show ground.

Due to the weather and the time of year – there is not usually a lot to see…  but I am thrilled to have found and bought a job lot of 70′s knitting needles and crochet hooks…  which are simply gorgeous!  We are going to sort and price them and add a vintage haberdashery section to Granny Knits… along with a few other finds which we tested during our craft workshops recently…  including some fab old fabric scraps, and vintage buttons.

Posted a few pics of some other bits that took my fancy… wooden skis (lovely Christmas display for a shop) 1970′s cul de sac dolls houses, and a super mad sheep dresser (?!?)…

V&A Quilting Exhibition

Saturday 20th March was the launch of the new VandA Quilting exhibition.  Libby (5 year old daughter) and I couldn’t resist and caught the train up for the first days action.  You could amble round in under an hour – but the patterns and colours caught Libby’s imagination and we parked up on the floor and sketched and coloured in designs for nearly 4 hours. (Yes she is as fabric mad as me – and I feel blessed!)
We have to admit here that we did take a few sneaky snaps to share with you, until the Security Guard informed us that there was no photography.
So sorry folks you will have to make do with my fuzzy snaps or head on up there to take in the full collection.

I am torn between my favourite being ‘Womens Fluff’ quilt (a tongue in cheek look at the life of women – which is stuffed with fluff from a tumble dryer)…  or the piece created by the inmates of Wormwood Scrubs.  Both aesthetically gorgeous, but inspiring at the same time.
The shop at exit contains some super lovely limited edition Liberty Prints and stitching goodies.  We had a fab day out, and would recommend the empty but beautiful Lunchbox room for you to picnic in as an alternative to the expensive and packed cafe!
