Jacqueline Wilson Free Craft Project

Regular readers will know of my recent commission by Dame Jacqueline Wilson to create a crafty piece to coincide with the launch of her new book Sapphire Battersea.
Jacqueline Wilson is a legend – and the most borrowed author in British Libraries, selling over 25 million books in the UK alone.  Most famous perhaps for her character Tracy Beaker, she has very loyal young fans (including my daughter!).  I cannot tell you how thrilled and utterly honored I was to be asked to complete this challenge for her.
Today Jacky sent me this picture of her and the sampler at the Superfan Party for the book launch – so I thought I would share …
The sampler is in Septembers The Official Jacqueline Wilson Mag..  there are lots of events this Autumn for Jacky’s fans, including her very own festival.. so this really is a very exciting project… and you can download it for free here for a limited time only.

Crafty Geek Ipod Cover

I discovered this fabulously crafty geeky cross stitch Iphone cover from Leese design  based in Korea a couple of months ago..  genius I cried!.. and one paypal click  and quite a long airmail journey later and it arrived… !

The little case made from silicone does not disappoint and it comes beautifully packaged with a little needle, 3 threads and instructions and a few mini designs.

I am quite up for the retro Apple Sign using threads from my stash .. but I have also been playing around with a mini phone design… decisions, decisions

Jacqueline Wilson Commission

Those of you who follow us on Twitter may be aware that we have been commissioned by Dame Jacqueline Wilson to create a crafty piece to coincide with the launch of her new book Sapphire Battersea
Sapphire Battersea is due out in September 2011, and it is the second book based on her Victorian  Heroine Hetty Feather, as she continues her adventures and passions in the Circus and beyond.  Sapphire (Hetty’s Stage name) is an accomplished seamstress, who creates all her own costumes.  My challenge was to design a Victorian style sampler that could have belonged to Sapphire, chronicling her life and adventures.
I cannot show / tell you any more until the launch – but the finished piece will be seen first at the book launch and will be available to fans through The Official Jacqueline Wilson Mag..  there are lots of events this Autumn for Jacky’s fans, including her very own festival.. so this really is a very exciting project.
The piece is all stitched up..  and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

Free Christmassy Embroidery Project

We are feeling all Christmassy in Granny Knits this week…  thanks to the lovely Kirsty Allsop promoting Cross Stitch on her HOME MADE HOME last week, we have had a record breaking week on our site…. and feel even more inspired to create new lovely things to share.

Our latest FREE PROJECT is this taster from our JOLLY HOLLY EMBROIDERY PATTERNS…  3 Christmas Stockings, which I have stitched onto some shop purchased vintage napkins for our Christmas Table this year.

Please let us know how you get on by posting pictures on our FACEBOOK PAGE and the best project every month wins a free kit!

New Embroidered Button Project Live

Your votes are in – and you asked us to load up the EMBROIDERED BUTTONS as our latest free project on Granny Knits…  so here they are.
I have designed a mini collection of patterns which can be used on our 15mm self covered buttons – you can mix and match with self covered patterned cottons scraps.
You can super size them up if you desire – or if feeling a little bold – go freestyle, like we did with Libby’s name button.
The madder the better we feel!

Embroidered Buttons

We have been working on some new project ideas for Granny Knits..  as mentioned in one of our old blogs.  Lots of people have got in touch asking to see the results and see if we are selling any of the patterns…

Well not all finished yet – but I am thrilled with the test subjects so far – and we have come up with a free 22mm button cross stitch project and 15mm embroidered patterns for our FREE PROJECTS section on the website.

We are planning to add lots of new things to this section of our site going forward..  and would really appreciate your feedback on these things, using it and the kind of stuff you would like to see going forward…

Happy Stitching

Some finished pieces
Sketching out with a water soluble marker
working on the cross stitch design
pop a safety pin on the back to make a quick badge

Freestyle Embroidered Cushion

We found this printed cushion cover sample in our stash!  This is one of our textile designs which we havent yet put into production…   so felt it would be perfect to embellish, and upcycle!

We are in the midst of launching more embroidery patterns online on Granny Knits over the next couple of weeks – but for this project I went freestyle, following and enhancing the flower pattern, and adding in words (supplied by my daughter who said it was how it made her feel) and a swirly bird.

We used one of our new water soluble pens for this – which although it looked like bright turquoise felt tip pen – disappeared when we litterally touched it with water!

Genius!..  hope you like the design

Rainy Day Bright Project

Today is a completely rainy day…  and it has rained for what seems like an age, so we thought we would share our Weekend Project, as something to do indoors – using simple embroidery back stitch..
It was my daughters friends birthday – so she ‘art directed’ this project choosing scraps and colours to make what I think is a girly but not too girly pillow case for a little girl.  Her friend was thrilled with the outcome!
You can ‘upgrade your own pillowcase’ using one of our embroidery kits – or one of our new free projects – and this one will be on GRANNY KNITS soon.
