Calendar | A Nostalgic Chelsea Flower Show

This week is RHS Chelsea Flower Show – the most prestigious of all the RHS shows and one that is part of the British Summer “Events”… in the last few years when I have been it has been vile weather – but after the hellish last few weeks the gods have been kind and the weather is glorious..

Whilst I am not a horticultural expert – I love blooms (the blowsier the better) and I love a bit of wild character and colour in a garden.

It was great to see Chris Beardshaw (an old favourite) win gold for his Azaleas and Rhodedenrons which are out of favour – but fabulously nostalgic for me and my childhood trips to Cliveden and Burnham Beeches… and of course my Grandmas Garden.

This nostalgic theme continued through the show – with caravans, madly wild flowers and chelsea pensioners being part of the displays!

Hope along all this week .. and on Friday you get to buy and carry away the left overs as they dismantle …!  My garden is full of old bits of Chelsea

Vintage Caravan Biscuits – A How To

I have been researching information for a new project .. whilst browsing my inspiration file I found this picture from Snail Trail.. whose vintage caravan has been used in lots of photo shoots (including one for Cath Kidston).. a little googling later and I stumbled across these FANTASTIC homage cookies on Bake at 350  Who not only created these little lovelys, but also show you how to make them!

My ‘flooding technique’ is not all that – so let me know if you get on any better!

I think I will simply stick to design project in hand and take my inspiration from Constance and her look-a-like cookies

PS – they did these fabulous vintage postcard ones too!

Goodwood Revival No 2

Following my previous post about our glorious weekend at Goodwood Revival,  Mr H and some Tweeters  and Facebook friends have asked for more pictures of cars and people and our outfits…

I have already given my full low down and review..  so this is simply lots more pics, including some courtesy of Mr H and his favourite Iphone app ‘Hipstamatic’ (for that out of focus vintage look)…  including the saucy vintage garage pin ups for the boys!

Enjoy!

Lovely new cards from a friend

Our lovely and talented friend Jane from the ‘free stitching’ and craft brand SNAPDRAGON has just launched a range of georgeous cards.  They perfectly represent the textures and colours of her gorgeous fabric designs…  and being a fan of the 70′s and colour we are thrilled with some of her new mad cap scraps.

These 2 are our favourites – for as you know we love Campervans and Caravans and the van looks a little like our 1950′s van Victor.

Lovely…

Victor the Vanmaster Caravans Arrival

Our vintage vanmaster caravan (c. 1960) arrived in Sussex today… and all at Pearl and Earl HQ were quite giddy with his go faster stripes and intricate curves.    No 2 in our fleet of ebay bargains (he was £150 and cost us £250 to get here!!) we are what you might call WELL CHUFFED.
His outside is pristine and whilst the insides need the tender loving touch of our chippy Jeff, we couldnt be more in love.
Now I just need to get on with finishing our Pearl and Earl fabric collection for the upholstery!

Caravan Teapot and other vintage treasures

I love to collect things, like many creative folk I know.. and this week I have been on a mission of inspiration as I am pulling together our new lines for Spring.
Firstly – this vintage yellow caravan teapot with its woodburning chimney and check curtains blowing in a mystery breeze – genius!

Second my vintage pashley workmans bike – saddle is a little dicey – but we are rebranding this for Pearl and Earl and fitting a new saddle and renovation for the Spring!

Third my Raleigh Budgie (mini Chopper Bike) for Mr Finlays second birthday this week.. this has already had a face lift and I will post ‘after’ pics later

But perhaps best of all was our second 70′s caravan – a VANMASTER classic caravan – oh yes we now have 2 for our camping club next year!…  this is on it’s way from Herefordshire and we will post some pics when she finally arrives!

Van Weekend Adventures

Just returned from our anniversary weekend with Mr Earl to the fantastic New Forest in the ever lovely Mr McHenry the VW Camper Van.  We honeymooned in the same place and returned for a bit of R and R without the kiddies.  Heaven.
But it wasn’t all wooded walks and bike rides, as we also visited the fabulous Beaulieu to catch up with our Pearl and Earl stock in their gift shop.  Which we admit looked a little lonely as they had sold out of our teatowels!
Whilst there we were looking for inspiration for our new vintage caravan project and came across another Royale Caravan no less – but this one was a minature made for Prince Charles when he was a nipper (lucky chap).

But our favourite find (besides the cracking pub with a micro brewery) had to be this vintage picnic set and this fantastic tea pot with a caravan motif.  Now frantically searching ebay for my own … x

New addition to our fleet

This week I have been extremely giddy and rash (must be the post show madness) … as whilst looking for old fabrics on ebay, I had a moment and bought a 1971 Royale Caravan for £250.00.   I have always fancied a retro number, and our kids are mad on the camper vans and tents, so we thought we could add to our fleet with 2 new Matching vans for our commune in 2010.

These rash decisions sometimes come and bite you on the bum… and as I rambled to the local ‘tow bar’ fitter about our 40 year old van he chuckled and advised us that the retractable bar would set us back £500 (yes the cost of 2 vans)… the service £200… new oven and sink… wallpaper… locks … lights… the list goes on!

But we are undeterred.. Gareth and I have been like giddy kids all afternoon.

We will keep you informed on their progress… and no doubt there will now be some caravan additions to our Pearl and Earl collection, and the vans will be kitted out in our new textiles and outdoor accessories.

PS – we decided not to tow them ourselves and bottled out, in favour of an expert to take them to our local friendly field (more dosh!).  Thought the A3 would be a safer place.
