Great Gatsby Metallic Chic Celebrations

Last week was the launch of the trailer for Baz Luhrman’s adaptation of F Scott Fitzgeralds THE GREAT GATSBY which is due out this summer…

I knew it was going to be a feast for the eyes (not because of leading men Leonardo Dicaprio and Tobey Macguire) but because the fashionista favourite Carey Mulligan was centre stage, and Baz at the helm the costumes and sets were going to be stars themselves…

First glimpse does not disappoint!… as the trailer spans out to the NY skyline we are thrust back to the 20′s when “the buildings were higher, the parties were bigger, the morals were looser and the liquor was cheaper.”

The party scenes are a metallic fest of over decoration…  and there are plenty of our metallic curtains as backdrops to the scenes…

Decadence indeed

Unique Bride Magazine | Your day, your way!

I discovered this new bridal magazine over the weekend…Unique Bride Magazine | Your day, your way!.  and LOVE its alternative style. Twitter @uniquebridemag

The first cover is all about Steam Punk – which is totally ahead of the curve in wedding style – so a brave first choice.  Steam Punk is one of my latest obsessions (Jules Verne meets Victoriana meets modern) and my publishers are just going to press with a new book on the subject STEAM PUNK GAZETTE

Meanwhile ..  have a read of this magazine if you want your day to be something a little different …

Supersize Paper Flower Couture

I was running through my ‘must blog about’ file tonight – and found this little gem I thought I would share.  The couture collection from Alexis Mabille this Spring featured these supersized paper flowers on the models heads.

My latest obsession is oversized paper flowers and I am experimenting a lot (see recent blog) .. and it is great to see these big bad boys in action..

Any daring brides out there?

Supersize Stitches latest book news

Well lordy me… SUPERSIZE STITCHES is out in the UK and US on 10th October this year and whilst promoting at the London Book Fair last month, my publishers have also secured translations into 4 other languages – Finnish, French, German and Swedish (plus a couple as yet unconfirmed)… so Bienvenue, Willkommen … and ..?  Sorry my school girl linguistic skills end there.  Best leave it to the experts!

.. and I have had permission to release a couple more shots of the projects from the back cover, which features 3 projects …  First up… this Giant Shaped Russian Doll…

She is a supersize 50cm tall.. and there are variations in the book enabling you to stitch her in different sizes.  She is one of my very favourite projects… and I hope you like it too

Lego + Moleskine = LUST

The legendary notebooks (I have a notebook and diary for Christmas every year, but this is not why they are legendary!) and LEGO have joined forces to create this limited edition just lauched collection

Over to the press release:

“The legend of LEGO® bricks joins the legendary notebook. The new limited edition hacks the classic Moleskine® notebook by embedding a LEGO plate into the iconic black cover. This limited edition pays tribute to all of the former kids who believe in the importance of playfulness in their everyday grown-up lives.

Moleskine Notebooks and LEGO® bricks are both design icons and creative platforms, for kids and for grown-ups.

This LEGO® limited edition is the latest in a series of limited editions that plays with pop icons of our times, including: Woodstock, Pac-Man, Petit Prince, and Star Wars. “

Vintage Caravan Biscuits – A How To

I have been researching information for a new project .. whilst browsing my inspiration file I found this picture from Snail Trail.. whose vintage caravan has been used in lots of photo shoots (including one for Cath Kidston).. a little googling later and I stumbled across these FANTASTIC homage cookies on Bake at 350  Who not only created these little lovelys, but also show you how to make them!

My ‘flooding technique’ is not all that – so let me know if you get on any better!

I think I will simply stick to design project in hand and take my inspiration from Constance and her look-a-like cookies

PS – they did these fabulous vintage postcard ones too!

Paper Tissue Pom Poms

I love love love paper decorations .. and we are so thrilled with our collection of eco chic decorations to date…

We have been asked so many times for these for brides and weddings – as they are perfect alternative to pew decorations and to enhance floral displays and dessert bars.  We have collated a few snaps to inspire you.

At the moment we are stocking 15 inch in 9 colours – but they are made here in Sunny Sussex and we are looking to offer made to order colours and sizes for bigger events.  Any questions – just ask us.
