Great Gatsby Metallic Chic Celebrations

Last week was the launch of the trailer for Baz Luhrman’s adaptation of F Scott Fitzgeralds THE GREAT GATSBY which is due out this summer…

I knew it was going to be a feast for the eyes (not because of leading men Leonardo Dicaprio and Tobey Macguire) but because the fashionista favourite Carey Mulligan was centre stage, and Baz at the helm the costumes and sets were going to be stars themselves…

First glimpse does not disappoint!… as the trailer spans out to the NY skyline we are thrust back to the 20′s when “the buildings were higher, the parties were bigger, the morals were looser and the liquor was cheaper.”

The party scenes are a metallic fest of over decoration…  and there are plenty of our metallic curtains as backdrops to the scenes…

Decadence indeed

Phil Mitchell Celebrates Pearl and Earl Style

Well as Pearl and Earl  we have supplied our style of nostalgic paper decorations to Oscar Winning Movies like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy… as well as a wealth of personal celebrations …  but our debut on the BBC in Fridays episode of Eastenders in the Queen Vic with Phil Mitchell was the one that has caused the most stir in our house…

Mind you Mr Mitchell does not look too impressed with our popcorn boxes… bit worried he may send the boys round!

Unique Bride Magazine | Your day, your way!

I discovered this new bridal magazine over the weekend…Unique Bride Magazine | Your day, your way!.  and LOVE its alternative style. Twitter @uniquebridemag

The first cover is all about Steam Punk – which is totally ahead of the curve in wedding style – so a brave first choice.  Steam Punk is one of my latest obsessions (Jules Verne meets Victoriana meets modern) and my publishers are just going to press with a new book on the subject STEAM PUNK GAZETTE

Meanwhile ..  have a read of this magazine if you want your day to be something a little different …

Hollywood Stars Hit Arundel

Regular readers will know how much we love our home town of Arundel in the midst of the Sussex Downs …  being a tiny town of 1000 with such a beautiful Castle, Estate, Cathedral and National Park on our doorstep is a bit of a blessing.  So on Fridays school run when we saw a big hullabaloo going on by the top Castle gate we had to have a nose!..  only to discover it was the ‘Press Junket’ over the weekend before the world premier tonight of Snow White and The Huntsman

So in situ was Kirsten Stewart (cue teenage screaming girls), Charlize Theron, the dashing Chris Hemsworth (Thor – so my son was VERY impressed), and Sam Claflin…

Kirstens beau Robert Pattison was celebrating his birthday this weekend so was also in town (cue even more screaming girls) and was staying in our local posh hotel Baliffscourt by the sea..

Hoping a little bit of the glamour will rub off on us all … but as of today normal service is resumed in our sleepy town, as the Hollywood Universal Studio machine has headed back up the A23 to the big smoke for the world premier tonight…

Mad Balloon Tails

Last week we were asked to create some bespoke paper decoration creations to style up a shoot…  it is for a new campaign for a well known British Brand, which at the moment we cannot tell you about.

What we can do though is give you a sneaky peek of the latest addition to our decoration service – TassleTastic.  This is a bespoke decoration / styling service – where we create individual items for events / parties.  In particular bespoke Tassletastic Big Balloons and Bouquets (the big red poppy is made from crepe paper)  – which are a great alternative present or styling prop for your wedding or event.

This is in addition to the creative work we do with film / event / wedding companies on sourcing special items for their events.

In the meantime, if you need any special paper decorations for your event – why not shop our decorations collection – or look at our big balloons.   If there is something bespoke you have in mind – please CONTACT US for a quote

Underground Cross Stitch

So for this months stitching inspiration column in CROSS STITCHER – I went underground!.. as my alternative look for the Jubilee (amid a sea of union jacks and crowns) I have looked to Becks classic interpretation of the London Underground map for inspiration.

There are plenty of designers (graphic and crafty) who have interpreted this iconic design into their own medium … and I too have had a go.

Unfortunately stitching commitments I had for the London Book Fair took precedence so I have not finished this little bad boy quite yet (although it is further along than the pics and should be done this weekend)..

BUT the London Tube Underground Cross Stitch Kit is now live and ready to buy for shipping next week.. and the latest pics will be online as soon as I am done!

Happy Stitching x

Living Etc go mad for paper decorations

Living Etc this month went mad for our paper decorations – they called in lots and lots of samples and we love what they did with these pink paper balls.… mixed with tutus no less!  You might get a similar effect though simply mixing with some fans or garlands in pink here… which they didn’t end up using.

Our Granny Knits pom pom bobble trim was strung up a stair case as an alternative trim which also looks inspired… and the red paper ball in a lampshade is a little bit of Christmas madness…

Gorgeous
